Radar data for a particular system are divided into '''seasons'''. *snow: shallow ice radar 2-8 GHz (we include 2-18 GHz radar data here) *rds: HF to UHF (usually 3 MHz-1000 MHz) radar sounder that is designed to detect the ice bottom *kuband: shallow ice radar sounder 12-18 GHz *kaband: shallow ice radar sounder 26.5-40 GHz More recent versions of these radars can and are used to sound the ice bottom however so the distinction between "accum" and "rds" is often based on the legacy of that instrument. Usually the aim is to detect layers for estimating accumulation and generally not to sound the ice bottom. *accum: broadband VHF to UHF (usually 30-3000 MHz) radar sounder that penetrate >100 m in dry snow/cold ice. The choice of which radar system is the best fit for your data is arbitrary, but generally speaking we recommend using the following guidelines: Radar data are organized into radar '''systems''' ("accum", "kaband", "kuband", "rds", and "snow"). The data processing software uses parameter spreadsheets to store information about the radar settings and how to process the data to produce these files. The output files can be turned into distributable data products with the post command.
